I don't even know who Kylie Minogue is. Should I? And, how famous does a person have to be to have a true celebrity fragrance, with or without cotton candy accord? Eeuww.

I wouldn't know who she was either if she hadn't released a perfume! She is a singer, and is massively popular in her native Australia, and I believe in much of the rest of the world (except the US) as well.

When will Kylie grow up and stop releasing such amateurish cotton candy infused juices ? Granted she still "looks" like a teen because of her dimunitive stature but the womans pushing 40 - she should be copying Shalimar/No. 5 !

She's an Aussie who is VERY big in the UK. And after her recent bout with breast cancer, I say let her use whatever perfume notes she pleases. Personally I love the sweet notes such as cotton candy.

Hi Robin! New poster here but have been reading your blog forever :o) The one positive aspect of the Sweet Darling is the sizing!! Why can't more perfumers provide 15ml and 30ml bottles? That would be fantastic. As for purposefully adding a "cotton candy accord?"....oyyyy! I completely agree with zztopp...time to grow up!

Sephora seems to have done a nice job of convincing many houses to do smaller sizes, although more often 30 ml than 15. Still, 30 beats 50!

I don't know much about KM's audience, but perhaps it is very young still.

Really - I can't bring myself to even smell that vacuous bimbo's products, let alone give her money for them. It's just encouraging her.

As for Kylie, she's a classic disco diva and (IMHO) national treasure. So perhaps this fragrance is aimed at a younger, nightclubbing audience with the 'cotton candy' note. It sounds like a 'gold hotpants' kind of demographic.

I agree I'd like to see her produce something more in line with what she would wear herself. For goodness sake, the woman's a fashion icon who still has a great sense of fun; she lived in Paris with Olivier Martinez for the last few years; she adores Portofino. I want to smell like THAT woman.

I have not yet smelled her first scent, unfortunately (Darling) so can't say if it is closer to what you're imagining for her.

And totally agree with your tribute to Kylie. Do you know that she is much adored by, of all things, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum? Awhile back I think we discussed them spraying her effigy with Darling. Recently I read she's the only celebrity with two models of herself in the museum...

I laughed when I read that some people don't know who Kylie is, because here in Australia she's everywhere (so I just expected everyone to know her)!

The thing is she spends most of her time in England and I heard her say that was her true home now. She's even adopted the accent. Most aussies still lay claim to her though, because they love her so much.

Anyway, the original Darling is a very boring scent in my opinion (just a friendly musky floral sort of like SJP Lovely, Hilary Duff With Love, Danielle Steele, etc etc). Definitely targeted at women around Kylie's age.

I am not a fan of Kylie's music at all, but she is huge here in Oz. Most people adored her simply as a pop idol. Then, when she was diagnosed with cancer people loved (and pitied) her even more, & then came the break-up with her boyfriend which the tabloids hammed up to make us love (and pity!) her even more.

When they released Darling in those tiny sizes, it was so obviously for all the fans out there who love Kylie but, well, who probably don't love the actual smell of Darling. It was just like when princess Diana died, and they released Elton John's candle in the wind as a single. A bite-sized portion to show your support and love.

On a final note - cotton candy and freesia??? Ugh aren't they just the most overused notes in mass market fragrance today!!!

She really is hardly known here at all, although I did read about her battle with breast cancer after the fact. And it does sound like she is reaching for a much younger market with this one, doesn't it?

I love Kylie, don't get me wrong, but she really needs to be more realistic about her age. Sure, everybody likes a little botox now and then. But bytrying to make people believe she's so young, just shows her age even more.
She needs to embrace her age. She's not "old."
I have to say, I would indeed like to see her do a less teenie-bopper fragrance.

I will be surprised if this is Kylie's last fragrance, so perhaps she'll do something "older" with the next one.

I've just been bought Sweet Darling & have found it to be an improvement over the bland & 'safe' original Darling. (I think it is so plain so men can wear it. Kylie is a huge gay icon after all).

That said though, I've found it to be a weaker version of Angel Innocent. On me, I'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between the two. I’ m not sure what their version of cotton candy is, but I just pick up the vanilla. The patchouli gives the fragrance a bit of a punch. I can’t pick up the individual floral of fruity notes, just the overall impression.
Overall, it's sweet at first, but then the scent turns rather sickly when the middle notes come through (and I love Pink Sugar & Chocolovers!). The 150ml shimmering body lotion (It was free when you bought the 50ml or 100ml bottle) is lovely though. The scent is softer; again my strongest note is vanilla. The shimmering particles are subtle, so they provide a nice glow on your skin when you’re in the sun. I’ll buy the lotion again.


Hopefully Kylie’s next fragrance will embrace her as being a 39-year-old businesswoman, rather then the ‘Princess of Pop’ we in England know her as.

If its a clone of Angel Innocent (weaker or not), I won't need it so thanks for the detailed description! Not sure if they're planning to launch any of them in the US anyway.

I'll put my hands up & admit to liking Paris' fragrances. I know hey're just following a rather tired trend, but they are all very wearable & strangers have come up to me to ask me what I'm wearing.
Wrote down Can Can sounds like it'd be perfect for me as I'm a sucker for sweet & fruity. I guess I'm the perfect target audience!!

I liked the first 2 more than I thought I would, but thought Heiress was sort of funny. I truly think it doesn't matter -- they'll sell no matter what they are, at least until people get tired of Paris Hilton.

Just Me didn't sell. Thats why it got discontinued. You can still find it in some stores, though

My mum bought me a bottle of Sweet Darling, so I've been wearing it almost every day. It's really growing on me now.

Quite surprised by the sweetness & softness. I was expecting something stronger on the floral notes.

I only smelled it quickly on a card, but found it very sweet. Guessing there is vanilla in there.

I am 32 and have listened to Kylie since I was about 12.....She was hugely popular in Australia on a TV show called Neighbours (which is also big in the UK). Kylie has been around for 20 years being fabulous. She is an amazing role model and if her scent (which I am in love with) is immature and you think she has to "grow up" then I feel really sorry for you. I personally think that a woman is entitled to smell like cotton candy and vanilla for as long as she lives~!!!
I have never fallen in love with a major perfume until now....until this one they all kinda smelt like chemicals to me.

I'm also a huge Minogue sisters fan, but seeing Kylie put her name to everything from perfumes and underwear to children’s books (She's also got a range of bed linens coming out in the coming months) is very disappointing. If 'team Kylie' took the time to make these products memorable it wouldn’t be so bad.
But as it is she’s just separating her supporter’s (some of them have been supporting her for over 30 years) from their money.
