Tom Ford For Men fragrance Tom Ford will launch his debut fragrance for men this fall. Tom Ford For Men features...

...cypriol, a root from India said to be used in fragrance for the first time with this project. Ford says it gives his new scent "that slightly dirty, sensual, sexy smell."
"It's not the same as natural musk used to be, but it has a bit of something that some people would think slightly dirty," Ford said. "I think it's warm and sensual."

Additional notes include citrus, lemon leaf oil, bergamot, mandarin zest, basil, violet leaves, ginger, orange blossom, black pepper, tobacco leaf, grapefruit blossom, amber, cedar, patchouli, vetiver, oakmoss and leatherwood. The bottle is a clear glass version of the Black Orchid bottle.

Tom Ford For Men will debut at Saks, and will be available in 50 and 100 ml.

Additional launches from Tom Ford this year will include Tom Ford For Men Extreme and Black Orchid Voile de Fleur, a lighter version of Black Orchid with added white flower notes. (via Women's Wear Daily)

Note: cypriol was also used in L'Artisan Dzongkha.

I love the3 claims to newness (pinch of salt, pinch of salt) but i'll be interested to sniff it nonetheless. His men's scents for Gucci and YSL were all interesting, even if not always my thing.

According to basenotes, cypriol is also in L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme & Givenchy Xeryus. The term is sometimes used interchangeably with Indian papyrus (they are related) so it is probably also what is called papyrus in L'Artisan Timbuktu. I don't know why co.s always claim they are the first to use something when a simple Google check proves them wrong!

Anyway, I like his other men's scents too, so this might be very worthwhile, we'll see!

There is also a papyrus (or what they call "papyrus resin") note in CSP's Bois de Filao, which does have a dry, papery note among the leaves, spices, wood, and just-dirty-enough patchouli. Do you suppose that's cypriol too?

Cypriol schmypriol! Heh, I don't care anymore. Why? Because, it's summer and bugs and skeeters are out! There's no frangrance with the lasting power and sillage like OFF Eucalyptus. If I'm not wearing that it's Benadryl anti-histamine itch gel. It packs a wallop of its own. Call me when Tom Ford announces an odorless solvent that both repells mosquitos and relieves itch, and can be universally added to all fragrances. Oh yeah, before I forget, sunblocks have their own scent profiles as well, and pleasant they ain't. :(

Good point. I've been wondering if anyone has experimented with adding scent to sunblock, or Deep Woods OFF, or combining scents with either of those. I have not used OFF Eucalyptus, but I gather it's pretty bad. Is the blending experiment worth trying, or just a waste of materials?

It works reasonably well, but certainly not as well as something with Deet. I think I read in his latest newsletter that he was making another batch for this summer and that it was to be on the website shortly.

I adore the scent, and have plans for using it in the future. It is an essential oil of the root of Cyperus rotundifolius (sp?) or C. scariosus, having a "sometimers" moment right now, but not on the scent -- when diluted it opens to the most beautiful incensey woody envelope of quiet-- like being in a church or temple. At least that's what it's like on Planet McCoy.

blimey.......I've just looked on Mr Ford's website and happily entered despite the warning of rude images. Judging by the the sweaty naked images I encountered, with my jaw slowly falling open, his new men's fragrance is not slightly dirty but absolutely filthy! (I'll find out tomorrow when I swing by Selfridges for it's launch). I never thought of myself as a prude, maybe I'm just getting older.....

I was also a bit peeved by the false claim of being the first to use cypriol but I do like Tom Ford and I like the fact that he's trying to create 'proper' fragrances again.
